Modelling is part of component of Contextual teaching and learning (CTL). While CTL is an educational process that aims to help students see meaning in the academic material they are studying by connecting academic subject with the context of their lives, that is, with context of their personal, social, and cultural circumstance. In a learning that model expressing the idea through how the teacher wants the students learn, the teacher wants students to do. Modeling can be demonstration, giving example about concept or learning activity.
The existences of modelling that used by English teacher in teaching speaking makes the researcher interests to research it.
Speaking the way to make understanding each other in communication or delivering the message using correct pronunciation, stress, and intonation. Speaking also involves interaction with other people.
There are two research focus in this study. The first one is How the teaching speaking by using modeling in the seventh grade at SMP Islam Badrul-ulum Pancong Waru Pamekasan. the second one is what are the media used by English teacher in teaching speaking to the seventh grade at SMP Islam Badrul-ulum Pancong Waru Pamekasan.
This study is to explain how does the teaching speaking by using modeling in the seventh grade at SMP Islam Badrul-ulum Pancong Waru Pamekasan. and to find out what the media used by English teacher in teaching speaking to the seventh grade at SMP Islam Badrul-ulum Pancong Waru Timur Waru Pamekasan.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative approach. Qualitative approach is research process which gets or produces descriptive data that form of words written of oral from the people or attitude observed by researcher. While the type of research is descriptive research. Descriptive research is a research designed to obtain information concerning the current status of phenomena. The data source is gotten from teacher and students through observation, interview and documentation. While checking of the data validity is triangulation. triangulation is a way to get the data validity by using the data source. The data source is the teacher and students.
Based on the result of interview, observation and documentation that in teaching speaking activities focus on modeling to help students relate material content to real the situation and make connection between knowledge and their daily activities and to make teaching process more interested and motivation, the English teacher used visual media that consist of realia and pictures.
By using visual media in teaching speaking process, the students easier understanding and motivation to imitate what the teacher explains
