Improving the ability of second year students of MTs Al-amien putri 1 Prenduan in writing recount paragraph by using picture series

. Writing is a difficult task because it requires special skill to produce a composition. In the teaching and learning English as a foreign language writing is regarded as a very complex language skill in which students face many problems to improve their skill. Therefore, teachers should find out some techniques or media that can students overcome the problem.
In line with the above condition, this research was conducted in order to make a better condition of the teaching and learning of writing through the implementation of picture series. Picture series is one kind of media that is used to help students in constructing ideas to compose a good recount paragraph. Through the implementation of picture series to write recount paragraph, it is expected that the students’ ability in writing can be improved. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to investigate the implementation of picture series in improving students’ writing ability.
This research applied Classroom Action Research in two cycles. Each cycle was obtained and analyzed individually. The evaluation of cycle I was assessed by a post test. The test was done simultaneously with the action in the last meeting of cycle 1. The result of the post test was not satisfying since the criteria of success were not accomplished. Base on the result of post test in cycle 1, the researcher was unsuccessful in implementing the action because the average score of the students was less than 70.
Base on the observation and analysis of the students’ score, the result of the action in cycle II was satisfying. The use of picture series to improve students’ ability in writing recount did work and was effective. After conducting cycle II, the researcher concluded that teaching English using visual media for young learners can increases students’ motivation , participation, and intosiasm in learning English. It also helps students in building and raising students’ idea from 61, 184 to 75,52, the average score that should be accomplished is 70, therefore, it means that’s the result of cycle II has accomplished the criteria of success. It can be concluded that the action was unsuccessful , so another cycle is not essential to be taken.
