RSBI (Pioneering of International Standard School) is a school that to fulfill national standards education on every aspect of it, and able to develop a school culture and environment that supports achievement for the international standards education by using English in various subjects that provides the students to have International competence. This study is about the types of questions used by Mathematics teacher at RSBI especially at SMP Negeri 1 Pamekasan. Types of questions is the stimulus that teacher conduct to measure the students’ abilities in order to create communicative classroom between teacher and students. Besides, giving questions to the students is very important in learning process because giving some purposes to the teacher and students. Those are, to explore the student’s thinking ability, to build the relationship between teacher and students, developing active learning of students, and focusing students' attention.
There are two research focuses in this study that become the main study of this research. The first one is what types of questions that the Mathematic teacher asks to the students at RSBI SMPN 1 Pamekasan. The second is what are the teacher’s purposes in giving questions to the students at RSBI SMPN 1 Pamekasan. Accordingly, there are two research purposes they are, to identify the types of questions that used by Mathematic teacher in giving to the students at RSBI SMPN 1 Pamekasan and to analyze the teacher’s purposes in giving questions to the students that used by Mathematic teacher at RSBI SMPN 1 Pamekasan.
Based on those research focuses and research purposes above, the researcher uses qualitative approach in research design and kind of research of this study is case study. Since the researcher wants to present the fact and informs the readers that actually some types of questions and purposes in giving questions from Mathematics teacher to the students. The researcher used three instruments for getting the data they are; interview, observation, and documentation. Interview is used to get information from the teacher. Observation is used to observe the description of the Mathematics teacher’s explanations in the classroom about types of questions at RSBI SMP Negeri 1 Pamekasan. Documentation is used of this study after the researcher gets the data from interview and observation and the data will be document.
The results of data analysis are known that types of questions the Mathematics teacher gives to the students at RSBI SMP Negeri 1 Pamekasan there are six categories of questions they are, knowledge questions, comprehension questions, application questions, analysis questions, synthesis questions and evaluation questions. Moreover, the result showed some the teacher’s purposes in giving questions to the students at RSBI SMPN 1 Pamekasan. Those are, to explore the student’s thinking ability, to build the relationship between teacher and students, developing active learning of students, and focusing students' attention.
Based on the results above, it is suggested for the readers in order to increase the types of questions knowledge which are given by Mathematics teacher at RSBI SMPN 1 Pamekasan and to increase the quality of the English questions used by Mathematic teacher. It is also suggested to the teacher in order to develop more questions in the classroom, because giving questions to the students is the important thing in the learning process. Furthermore, it is suggested to the next researchers to deepen the types of question in other RSBI, because this study is only focused at RSBI SMP Negeri 1 Pamekasan.
