Literature is as product of human creativity of art, like novel. Novel is a part of literature in art. By reading novel the reader can get some knowledge and experience about the content of the novel. The researcher chooses novel of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” Gabriel Garcia Marques. First, because this is very attractive by reading the novel and it can add knowledge about moral in content of novel especially moral values. Second, this novel tells a story about death of young man called Santiago Nasar which is defeated or killed by reason of honor. In this research, the researcher analyzes moral values based on K Bartens’ perspective.
The focus of study is what moral values found in novel of "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" by Gabriel Garcia Marques? And what are the impacts of moral values found in novel of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marques toward characters? The purpose of the study is to find the moral values are conducted in novel of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marques, and to know the impacts of moral values found in novel of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marques toward characters.
The approach of this study is qualitative while research method applied in this study is content analysis. The researcher analyzes and describes the data is found in novel of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marques. And the instrument used in this research is the researcher him self, he searches, collected the data has moral values than analyses and describe it clearly about moral values in novel of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marques. And the researcher analyzes and describes more about impacts of moral values towards characters.
Based on the result of the analysis that is done by the researcher in novel of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marques, the researcher found moral values that correlate responsibility, conscience, obligation, but in this analisis, I did not find moral values in formal form. As for the researcher found impacts of moral values toward characters, such as: hate, fear, sympathy, marriage, death, regret, disappointment, satisfaction, love, bad people, and suspect. The finding moral values in novel of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marques are based on K Barterns’ perspective.
Finally, the researcher suggests for the next researcher to investigate other literary works from some objects or analyze the work from different point of view.
