The Effect of Using Stick Figures Media to Students’ Writing Achievement at the Eighth Grade Students of MTsN Pademawu Pamekasan I

Writing is one of the four language skills that has to be taught to the students. Writing is process transfer the ideas, opinions, imaginations, and feeling into written form. The writer should think about ideas that will be written. Writing in foreign language is often associated with some aspects likes vocabulary, grammar, mechanics, content, and organization. Writing also has some process, as created ideas, organize the ideas, write draft, editing and making revision. Difficulties of writing faced by students especially for students at the eighth grade of MTsN Pademawu Pamekasan I. Therefore, the teacher should has way to make writing is easier. One of the way is using media. One of the advantages of media is to make the teaching process easier. One of media that used in writing subject is stick figures: it is one of media like stick that arranged become things such as people, animal, and another object. By stick figure, the students can focus and concentrate in thinking and get stimulus to deliver their ideas into written form.
There are two research problems in the research. The first is whether there is effect of using Stick Figures Media to students’ writing achievement at the eighth grade students of MTsN Pademawu Pamekasan I. The second one is how significance is the effect of using Stick figures media to students’ writing achievement at the eighth grade of MTsN Pademawu Pamekasan I, by level significant 5%.This research is conducted to find out the effect and how significance by level 5% of using stick figures media to students’ writing achievement at the eighth grade students of MTsN Pademawu Pamekasan I.
Population of the research is 36 students of eighth grade of MTsN Pademawu Pamekasan I of 2011/2012 academic year. The instruments that used were quetionnaire and documentation. Quetionnaire was to obtain the data related to using stick figures media as variable X. While, Documentation to obtain the data related to students’ writing achievement as variable Y. The researcher collected the data from 13 to 16 April. This research used quantitative approach and the kind of this research was non experimental design, namely correlational study. Data analysis sechnique that used by researcher was statistical analysis by product moment formula.
The result of this research show that there is effect of using stick figures media to students’ writing achievement at the eighth grade of MtsN Pademawu Pamekasan I and the effect is sufficient significance. The result of statistical analysis that shows that “r” value is 0,697. It is more than “r-table” in significance level 5% = 0,329 with N 36. Then the researcher compered it with table of interpretation “r” product moment. It is between interval
0,40 – 0,70 with sufficient interpretation.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for English teacher develop the using of stick figures media in teaching learning process especially in teaching writing and the teacher also should be creative in order the students can follow this subject happily and can focuss or concentrate when deliver their ideas, feeling, and imaginations into written form.
