English course is an institute of teaching process that is done in certain time. English course has now become a strategic place for those who want to know more deeply and more specifically about English, and also with English course the students can take advantage of free time and their holidays to positive activities such as English lessons for skills and their knowledge. It has positive effects for students such as in speaking, writing, vocabulary, reading, listening etc. They will know how good speak English, how to write sentence with good grammar, and they can get many vocabulary in course. English course similarity with non-formal education, it means that English course is a place of non-formal educations. According to Soelaiman Joesoef, non-formal is as new system in education world where the shape and the execution is different with formal education ,and non-formal education there is the same important if we compare between formal education and non-formal education like the same shape, education target, and education execution. English achievement is the ability of students in the form score.
There are two problems of the research. The first one is whether there is any difference between students who take English course and those who don’t to the students’ English achievement at SDN Pademawu Timur 5 in Kwanyar Pademawu. The second one is how significant level between students who take English course and those who don’t take English course to the students’ English achievement at SDN Pademawu Timur 5 in Kwanyar Pademawu.
This research is to find out the difference between students who take English course and those who don’t take English course to the students’ English achievement at SDN Pademawu Timur 5 in Kwanyar Pademawu and to measure how statistically significant level between students who take English course and those who don’t take English course to the students’ English achievement at SDN Pademawu Timur 5 in Kwanyar Pademawu. There are two variables in this study; students who take English course and those who don’t, as independent variable, and students’ English achievement, as dependent variable.
In this research, the population for independent variable is students who take English course and those who don’t take English course and the population of dependent variable is students of SDN Pademawu Timur 5. While, the sample for independent variable is used random sampling in 3,4,5,6 grade of SDN Pademawu Timur 5 and the sample for dependent variable is 42 students. Research instruments which are used are documentation and test. Documentation was obtained to get data the name list students who take English course. And to the English achievement score of students the researcher takes test from English teacher. The research took place for two week, from 24th may – 11th June 2012. The obtained data from test was analyzed by using t-test formula. Since, it compared two groups.
The result showed that there is a significant between students who take English course and those who don’t take English course to the students’ English achievement at SDN Pademawu Timur 5 in Kwanyar Pademawu. The significant at the level of 0,05. It is proven that the obtained t-value is bigger than t-table (3,472 > 2,021).
Based on the result above, it is suggested The English teacher should give supporter education by giving English course or private teaching in order the students have motivation and interested in English teaching learning process. It is suggested for students to take English course more active to your knowledge about English itself.
