The Effect of Writing Outline on Students’ Writing Paragraph At Second Semester Students at STAIN Pamekasan

There are two research problems in this research. First, Is there any effect of writing outline on students’ writing paragraph at second semester students of English Teaching Department at STAIN Pamekasan, second, How significance is the effect of writing outline on students’ writing paragraph at second semester students of English Teaching Department at STAIN Pamekasan.
Based on the two research problems, there are two research objectives. The first, this research is conducted to know the effect of writing outline on students’ writing paragraph at second semester students of English Teaching Department at STAIN Pamekasan, second, it is to identify how significance is effect of writing outline on students’ writing paragraph at second semester students of English Teaching Department at STAIN Pamekasan.
The population of this research is the second semester second semester of students English Teaching Department at STAIN Pamekasan academic years of 2011/2012 containing 190 students. This research used random sampling and the sampling is A Class containing 20 students. The instruments which were used in conducting the research are questionnaire and documentation. The researcher collected the data on May 11th 2012 to May 18th 2012. Data analysis technique which was used in this research is statistical analysis by using product moment.
The result shows that writing outline has effect on students’ writing paragraph at second semester students of English Teaching Department at STAIN Pamekasan. It is proven with the higher “r kerja” = 0,698 more than “r table” (table of coefficient value of correlation “r” product moment) in “Significance level” 5% = 0,423 or 1% = 0,537. And also it’s proven when “r kerja” consult with “interpretation”r” product moment, where the value of “r kerja” is between 0,40 – 0,70 with sufficient/enough interpretation.
Based on the result of this research, the teacher can use writing outline in writing class, especially in writing paragraph because by using writing outline, the students can organize the idea and provides a structure (at its most basic, a begining, a midle and an end) and also the students easier in writing paragraph. The teacher also must a good facilitator. So that,the students can write well in writing paragraph.
