Teaching Speaking through Snake and Ladder in the Second Grade of MTs Nurur Rahmah Sentol Pademawu Pamekasan

As we know that English is one of subject included in national final examination, the students are demanded to master English because if the students master English the students can be easy in finishing the national final examination (UAN) or UMPTN. All of the students’ effort in learning English besides to master English to face the globalization era, the students wants to graduate in national final examination (UAN) and UMPTN. Beside that English as the requirement for the students in communicating with foreigner because English as international language. The problem is the students consider that English is frightening subject because they think that English is difficult to learn. The students’ difficulty in English makes the students dislike the English subject. Thus, It’s the teacher’ duty to make the students aware that English is interesting subject and enjoyable subject and English is easy to be learnt.
Based on the description in the background of the study above, the research focus of this thesis namely; 1). The process of teaching speaking through snake and ladder in the second grade of MTs Nurur Rahmah Sentol Pademawu Pamekasan. 2) The obstacles faced in the process of teaching speaking through snake and ladder in the second grade of MTs Nurur Rahmah Sentol Pademawu Pamekasan.
This research took place at MTs Nurur Rahmah Sentol Pademawu Pamekasan and the researcher used qualitative descriptive method in this research. The data are gotten by interview, observation, fieldnote and documentation, then those data are analyzed with analysis qualitative than all of data gotten are checked, collecting, classifying, analyzing, verifying and making conclusion.
Based on the result of the research finding and discussion about the process of snake and ladder in teaching speaking namely; the first is making a group that consist of 3 students, the group is used to make the students have conversation and the students can have challenge to speak. The second is the teacher prepare the equipment needed by the students to play the game like coin, sign for member and the board of the snake and ladder. The third is the teacher explained the rule of the game. The next fourth is asking the students to play the game and the fifth is looking the winner, the first winner from one group should play again with the winner of the other groups. The teacher of asked the winner to play again to look for the final winner, after the teacher find the final winner thus, the game is over and the winner get reward or prize from the teacher and the last is asking the students to show their skill in front of the class.
The obtacles of the implementation of snake and ladder in teaching speaking at MTs Nurur Rahmah Sentol Pademawu Pamekasan are the group determined, that the English teacher gets the obtacles from the supervision, it needs a strong power because the English teacher should guide the group that still cannot understand the rule of the game. The second obtacle is warning the participant who still use madura and indonesia language when they have conversation with their friends especially when they are too spirit and the students’ vocabularies become the obtacles of the implementation of snake and ladder in teaching speaking at MTs Nurur Rahmah Sentol Pademawu Pamekasan.
Based on that explanation so that the finding of the research is the snake and ladder can help the student to lost the students’ boredome and it is the effective way in teaching speaking because the students are trained to practice their English with their friends by using daily conversation and the condition is so comfortable because the teacher used pictures to make the students interested in learning. And snake and ladder is efficient for the teacher in teaching speaking because it can make the students active and participative in all activities implemented in teaching speaking conducted in the class.
