The Effect of Students Pronunciation on the Speaking Skill at Second Semester Academic Years 2009/2010 of English Teaching Learning Program STAIN Pamekasan

Speaking is a complex process which involves constructing a massage in a form that other people can understand, and delivering the message using the correct pronunciation, stress and intonation. The students have to speak English fluently, also the students must know how to use the pronunciation in speaking English. To use the pronunciation in speaking, the student must pronounce a word correctly to make the other student understand what the student said, so the student must use good pronunciation in speaking daily.
There are two kinds of problem in this research. The first problem is there any effect of student pronunciation on the speaking skill; and the second problem is how significance does students pronunciation on the speaking skill at second semester academic years 2009/2010 of English teaching learning program STAIN Pamekasan. While the objectives of this study, the first objective is to explain the effect of student pronunciation on the speaking skill; and the second objective is to identify how significance of students pronunciation on the speaking skill at second semester academic years 2009/2010 of English teaching learning program STAIN Pamekasan.
This research uses quantitative approach; and the kind of research is correlation with use non experimental research. The population of this research is at second semester academic years 2009/2010 of English teaching learning program STAIN Pamekasan containing 172 students. The researcher chooses 20% as a sample because the population is more than 100 students, so the researcher chooses A class by using purposive sampling, the amount of sample is 32 students. The instruments that are used in collecting data is documentation and test. Documentation is used to collect the data related with variable Y and test is used to collect the data related with variable X. Data analysis technique that used is statistical analysis by using product moment.
The result of this research shows that there is the effect of student pronunciation on the speaking skill at second semester academic years 2009/2010 of English teaching learning program STAIN Pamekasan. It was proven by using statistical analysis shows that the value of rxy 0,692. It is higher than the table of critical value “r” product moment 95% and 99% with N 32 the value is 0,349 and 0,449. Then the researcher compare the table of interpretation of “r” value, it is between 0,600-0,800 with level of sufficient interpretation.
Based on the result above, the researcher concludes that pronunciation must use with students in their speaking skill especially in speaking by using intonation.
