The Influence of Puppet as Media on Students Vocabulary Mastery at The Fourth Grade in SDN Apa’an I Pangarengan Sampang

Vocabulary is a core component of language proficiency and provides much of the basic for how well learners speak, listen and write. By having many stock of word, students will be able to comprehend the material cacth such as talking, give response, speak fluently and write some kinds of topics. Therefore, it is not easy to create an effective teaching, especially in learning vocabulary moreover to young children. The English teacher has to looking for a good way in order to make an effective teaching. One of the way is using puppet as media.
There are two kinds of the problem of the study: first; do the more students use puppet as media, the more vocabulary they can mastered at fourth grade of SDN Apa’an I Pangarengan Sampang; and second; how statistically significance puppet as media influence students English vocabulary mastery at fourth grade of SDN Apa’an I Pangarengan Sampang. While the objectives of the study: first; to investigate whether the more students use puppet as media, the more vocabulary they can mastere at fourth grade of SDN Apa’an I Pangarengan Sampang; and second; toidentify the significance of puppet as media influence students English vocabulary mastery at fourth grade of SDN Apa’an I Pangarengan Sampang.
In this research, the researcher uses quantitative approach, while the kind of research which the research used non experimetal research. The population of this reseach are the fourth grade students of SDN Apa’an I Pangarengan Sampang in academic year of 2011/2012 countaining 36 students. The population of this research is less than 100, so the researcher takes all population as sample in this study. The instrument that are used in collecting data are questionnaire, test and documentation. The data collection in this research used questionnaire, test and documentation. Data analysis technique that used is statistical analysis by using product moment.
The result of this research shows that the using of puppet as media give influence on students vocabulary mastery at fourth grade of SDN Apa’an I Pangarengan Sampang. It was proven by using statistical analysis shows that the value of “r value” statistical was 0,62 higher than “r” (table of coefficiennt value of correlation “r” product moment) in significant level of 5%=0.329 and in significant level of 1%=0.424. it is also proven when “r value” is consulted to interpretation “r” product moment, where the value of “r value” is between 0,40-0,70 with sufficiant or enough interpretation. Based on the result above, the researcher concludes that the using of puppet as media should be continued as one of English teaching media since it could add and increase the students vocabulary mastery.
