In teaching English, the English has important role to improve the students’ speaking skill, the English teacher has to give opportunities to the student to practice it, the English teacher is demanded to determine or even implement new methods that can attract the students to increase their activeness in speaking and they try to communicate with their friend by using English. A good teaching technique should make the students participate and interact with the other learners during the speaking activities. In teaching target language it is supposed to create some interactions among the students and English teacher at the class.
This research is focused on one problem which is the main discussion of this research, Is there any effect of Student Teams Achievement Division technique on students’ speaking skill at tenth grade of State Vocational High School 3 Pamekasan?.
In this research the researcher take place at State Vocational High School 3 Pamekasan, the approach of this research is quantitative. The data are gotten by questionnaire, test, interview, and observation. Then, those data are analyzed with analysis product moment. All of data gotten are checked the validity of the data. The data for variable X is gotten by the researcher by using the questionnaire while the data of variable Y is gotten from the result of the test. The total number of the population is 126 students. There are 46 students as the sample; the researcher used stratified random sampling to determine the respondent.
Then the research finding shows that the result of score “r” count is higher than “r” product moment by using 95% as the level of significance. The result of “r” value is 0,502 while “r” product moment with N is 46 respondents in level of significance 95% = 0,291. The level of the effect of the student teams achievement division technique on the students’ speaking skill at tenth grade of Vocational High School 3 Pamekasan is quite low, it can be seen that “r” value (0,502) is between 0,400 and 6,00. Therefore it can be confirmed that the effect score is quite low.
Based on the result above, it proved that Ho was rejected and Hi was accepted. It means that the student teams achievement division technique affected on students’ speaking skill at the tenth grade of Vocational High School 3 Pamekasan.
Therefore, the teacher should use Student Teams Achievement Division technique on teaching speaking to make the students able to speak English well although in the implementation the teacher should evaluate it.
