Students' Responses toward The Usage of Whatsapp Story as Media to Practice Writing at The Fourth Semester of TBI IAIN Madura

WhatsApp is free and offers simple, secure, reliable messaging and
calling, available on phones all over the world. WhatsApp has feature that is
named as whatsapp story, it is one of whatsapp feature that is usually allows
users to share text, photo, video, and GIF updates that disappear after 24 hours.
In educational setting, this application is used as media to help students learn
english, especially in writing. Writing is an activity to produce or draw graphic
symbols which represent a language that is understood by people, it can be
practiced by using whatsapp feature as media that is whatsapp story.
In this case, there was fourth semeter students of TBI IAIN Madura who
used whatsapp story as media to practice writing. So that, the researcher
interested to conduct study related with students’ responses toward the usage of
this application. Then, this research has 2 research focuses that are how students
used whatsapp story as media to practice writing and how students’ response
toward the usage of whatsapp story as media to practice writing. So that, the
objective of this study was to know about how students’ responses toward the
usage of whatsapp story as media to practice writing and how they used it.
In this study, the researcher used a qualitative approach with descriptive
research. The researcher also used observation, interview and documentation to
collected the data that was gotten from the fourth semester students who used
whatsapp story to practice writing as primary source and screenshot of students’
english writing in whatsap story, journal, book as secondary source.
The result of this study related with the first research focuses shows that
most of the fourth semester students follow some steps of writing to write in
whatsapp story that are prewriting, organizing, writing, and polishing. Their
writing also fulfill the element of good writing that are purpose, audience,
clarity but not all students fulfill unity and coherence. Besides, related with the
second research focuses shows that they stated positive responses dealing with
the usage of whatsapp story as media to practice writing because they like to do
it and this prositive responses belong to kind of reliable responses that was
looked based on sense, kind of memory responses that was looked based on
occurence, and kind of object responses that was looked based on environment.
