An Analysis Student Difficulties in Procedure Writing Argumentative Essay on The 3rd Semester Student of TBI A at IAIN Madura in 2022-2023 Academic Year

Writing is categorical activity. In writing someone has to convey ideas, concept
even experiences and opinions in writing. Students also think that writing is
difficult and boring to learn, especially in writing argumentative essay. The
subject of this research is TBI students on the 3rd semester in A class of English
Department, meanwhile the object of this research is difficulty of procedure
writing argumentative essay. Researchers are interested in this research because
researchers want to know what are the student difficulties.
There are two research focus in in this research, the first what are the student
difficulties in writing argumentative essay and the second how to overcome the
student difficulties in writing argumentative essay at the 3rd semester of TBI A at
IAIN Madura academic year 2022-2023.
In this research, researcher use qualitative approach that produces descriptive
data, because researcher describes about what difficulties the researcher found in
3rd semester student TBI A and how student overcome these difficulties.
Researcher use semi or partially structure interview by using telephone interview,
via WhatsApp. Researchers also use observation as a support to obtain data, as
well as documentation to collect data. As for the data analysis used starts from
data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The results of this study found that students had difficulty writing argumentative
essays, so there were some difficulties that made them feel difficult in writing
argumentative essays. Such as difficulty in choosing a topic, difficulty in correct
sentence, lack in vocabulary, difficulty in making arguments, and difficulty in
finding conclusions. But, behind that students have ways to overcome these
difficulties, the have their own way starting from reading many references,
discussing with lecture or friends who understand, more practicing writing skill,
and memorizing vocabulary.
