TheEffect of TikTok Platform to English Vocabulary Mastery at the Seventh Grade of MTs Negeri 3 Sumenep

TikTok as an audio visual media application, which wasunique and
interesting which called be used easily to increase the limited vocabulary of
students. Regarding vocabulary learning, TikTok was a learning medium by
making short videos with clear and unobtrusive delivery of material coupled with
various interesting writing effects and emoji features that could give a positive
impression and motivate students to achieve the goals of the learning process. In
addition, the TikTok platform could encourage students to learn new vocabulary
that they have never learned before. The TikTok platform had a very significant
role in motivating students to learn vocabulary and making the learning atmosphere
interesting. The researcher implemented a strategy with the TikTok Platform to
improve students' vocabulary mastery because they had a lack of vocabulary and
they lost interest in learning foreign languages.
This study aimed to find out whether seventh grade students of MTs Negeri
3 Sumenep would have better vocabulary mastery after implementing the TikTok
platform in seventh grade at MTs Negeri 3 Sumenep. And how significant the
influence of the TikTok platform in mastering English vocabulary in the seventh
grade of MTs Negeri 3 Sumenep. This study used a quantitative approach, namely
Pre-Experimental research in one group, Pre-test Post-test. This study was
conducted in only one group without a control group. One group was selected, gave
a pre-test then gave treatment and then gave a post-test to seventh grade students at
MTs Negeri 3 Sumenep. The population in this study was only seventh grade
students, totaling 18 students. The sample for this study was taken from all
populations because the respondents were less than 100 who were taken using the
cluster random sampling technique. The instrument used in collecting data in this
study was a test. Data analysis used a determination t test whose significance was
determined at 0.05%.
The results of this study indicated that seventh grade students of MTs Negeri
3 Sumenep had better vocabulary mastery after implementing using the TikTok
Platform. This could be seen from the results of the mean pre-test of 55.55 and the
mean post-test of 91.11. From the pre-test to the post-test, there was an increase in
vocabulary mastery of 35.56. While the results of the t test obtained t value of 9.981
which is higher than t tael of 0.238 with a significance level of 5% (0.05). So from
the results of the "t" test (t value: 9.981 > t table 0.238). It could be concluded that
the TikTok platform had an effect on the vocabulary mastery of seventh grade
students at MTs Negeri 3 Sumenep by 99.81%
