The Analysis of Imperative Sentences on The English Translation of Surah Yasin by Maulana Muhammad Ali
Keywords: imperative sentence, English translation, Surah Yasin, Maulana
Muhammad Ali.
The Qur'an has many forms of imperative sentences (amar). There are four
kinds of imperative sentence forms, namely fiil amar, fiil mudlorik accompanied
by lam amar, masdar which replaces fiil amar, and isim fiil amar. Imperative
sentences not only have many forms but also unique forms. One of the reasons is
that imperative sentences in the Qur'an do not only consist of verbs but are also
made of masdar (verbal noun) and sometimes in the Qur'an imperative sentences
can be made of one letter. Based on this phenomenon, the researcher is interested
in analyzing the imperative sentences in Surah Yasin when translated into
English. While in English there are only two forms of imperative sentences,
namely the verb and the auxiliary verb "be". How do imperative sentences in
English translate the forms of imperative sentences in the Qur'an which have more
forms and not only consist of a verb?
