The Use of Chat Feature in The Genshin Impact Game for Players’ Vocabulary Mastery

Vocabulary is one of the most important vital components in constructing a
sentence framework good in writing, listening or speaking. Because without a good
mastering vocabulary, it will be difficult to compose a perfect and understandable
sentence or interpret a sentence spoken by someone. Online games can be an
alternative to be used as material in mastering vocabulary. One of them is the
Genshin Impact game where in the game there is a chat feature that helps players
communicate with each other in English. The players use English in game chat
because the average Genshin Impact Game players come from all over the world.
The purpose of this research is to find out the use of chat feature in the Genshin
Impact game for players’ vocabulary mastery.
This research used a qualitative approach and descriptive research. The main
source is used from Genshin Impact game application and theresult of conducted
interviews with twelve Genshin Impact players about their response after using the
chat feature. While secondary source are from of books and journal articles that are
related to research. In collecting data, researcher used observation, interview and
documentation. To analyze the data, the researcher uses data reduction, data
display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The theory used in this research is the
theory of Jonathon deHaan, Sahar Ameer Bakhsh, Ainsha Ainun Habibie, Asih
prihandini and Julia Smith.
Furthermore, the result of the first research focus showed that the use of the
chat feature in the Genshin Impact game first is log in to the game. After that, the
player's phone screen will display the respective server menu and a command line
"tekan untuk mulai" (tap to start). After entering the game, a world will be displayed
containing one of the characters to be played. After that, there are several options
in one view. Players only need to tap the lower left corner with the message icon to
chat with other players. While the result of the second research focus showed that
the advantages of chat feature in the Genshin Impact game can make the vocabulary
mastery of players can be better than before, the example of vocabulary the players
get are archipelago, outrider, cavalry, avalanche, freeze, monstrosity, distinguished,
demeanor, desire, ascend, obviously, tenuous, heal, revive, rerun, city, come on,
follow me, and what you need here. While the disadvantages in using the chat
feature in this Genshin Impact game there are no auto translate and auto correct,
there are no voice chat, many players shorten the words, only a little vocabulary
can obtained, and not effective for learning grammar.
