The Correlation Between The Students’ Vocabulary Mastery and Teir EPT Score at 6th Semester of TBI D IAIN Madura
Keyword: Vocabulary Mastery, English Proficiency Test (EPT).
Vocabulary is one of the English component that can affect students’ English skills
(speaking, reading, writing, and listening). In the academic environment, the learners learn
and used vocabulary in every English skill. So, can be said that increasing vocabulary
mastery is important because in an academic environment, there is test called EPT. The
score of EPT is used as a graduation requirement and can be used to apply for jobs.
Therefore, there are two research problem in this thesis. The first, is there any correlation
between the students’ vocabulary mastery and their EPT score at 6th semester of TBI D
IAIN Madura. The second, how is the significance between the students’ vocabulary
mastery and their EPT score?
In this research, the researcher used a quantitative approach, while a kind of research design
used a correlation design. To collect the data, the researcher used multiple choice test and
documentation.
The result of this research shows that there is a correlation between the students’ vocabulary
mastery and their EPT score at 6th semester of TBI D IAIN Madura. The researcher stated
that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is proven
that the value of (r hitung) is 0,734, while the of (r table) on 5% of significant level is
0,396. So, there is a correlation between the students’ vocabulary mastery and their EPT
score at 6th semester of TBI D IAIN Madura, and the correlation between the students’
vocabulary mastery and their EPT score at 6th semester of TBI D IAIN Madura have strong
significant.
