The Effect of Affective Filter Hypothesis by Krashen in Teaching Students Speaking Skill at the Ninth Grade of MTsN 3 Pamekasan
Key words : Speaking, Affective Filter Hypothesis
A foreign language is a new language learned by a person that is not
commonly used by most people in their city. This is because second and third
languages are not acquired naturally or are not used in everyday life. This study
aimed to know the students motivation, anxiety, and self confidence in speaking
skill at the ninth grade of MTsN 3 Pamekasan after getting affective filter
hypothesis treatment. to know the students anxiety in speaking skill at the ninth
grade of MTsN 3 Pamekasan after getting affective filter hypothesis treatment. to
know the students self confidence in speaking skill at the ninth grade of MTsN 3
Pamekasan after getting affective filter hypothesis treatmentThe research design
of this research is quantitative approach, where the data was analyzed by using
statistical procedures and the result of the data will be represented in a numerical
data and statistical process. This research use quasi experimental design. The
research design uses a nonequivalent pretest-postest control group research
design. The problem is whether the ninth grade students of MTsN 3 Pamekasan
have better motivation, self confidence, and low anxiety after the affective filter
hypothesis treatment on speaking skill. The form of the test is a Likert scale tick
question, namely 4 = strongly agree, 3 = agree, 2 = disagree, 1 = strongly disagree
consisting of 18, with each indicator (self confidence, motivation, anxiety)
totalling 6 questions related to the affective filter hypothesis. In this study,
researchers provided treatment by trying to suppress anxiety, increase and boost
the self confidence and motivation. As a result, researchers found an increase in
the results of the experimental class after receiving affective filter hypothesis
treatment.
