Teacher Strategy in Teaching Vocabulary for Speech Delay Student at TK Al Uswah Pamekasan 2023

Vocabulary is an important thing in learning English, however, children with
learning disorders, especially speech delayed children, find it difficult to pronounce
words and even lack vocabulary knowledge. Of course, this is a challenge for
teachers in teaching English vocabulary to speech delayed students. Therefore the
teacher strategy must be help speech delay students in learning English vocabulary.
TK Al Uswah is one of the schools that accepts children with learning disorders
and also has its own strategy in teaching vocabulary to its students.
Based on background encourages researcher to conduct research about There
are two reseach focus in this study. The first is how the strategy applied by teacher
of TK Al Uswah in teaching vocabulary to speech delay student. The second is
what are the teacher's difficulties in teaching vocabulary to speech delay
students.
The type of research used in this research is a descriptive case study. It is
means that this study is a study of unique individual cases and usually discusses
a case that occurs. Data collection were carried out through interview,
observation, and documentation. The informants in this research were TK Al
Uswah teachers who taught stimulation and teachers who taught English
vocabulary. The data analysis technique is descriptive qualitative. Determining
the validity of the data, in this study used data triangulation technique, namely
triangulation data source and triangulation method.
The result of the research that Researchers found that the strategy used by
teachers in teaching vocabulary was stimulation. This stimulation aims to train
speech delay students' abilities so they can speak at their proper age. Apart from
that, when learning English vocabulary the teacher uses demonstration strategies,
choral drills and English guessing. The strategies implemented by teachers make
students interested in participating in learning. There are also difficulties teachers
face in teaching vocabulary to speech delayed children, namely teachers must be
patient, pronounce words slowly and be able to make them focus. To overcome
these difficulties, teachers have their own strategy, namely using educational games
and demonstrations in teaching the material. This strategy was quite successful in
making speech delay students interested and focused on following the lesson. Based
on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the strategy applied by the
teacher in teaching speech delay students successful in making speech delay student
interested in learning English vocabulary and able to pronounce the vocabulary that
had been taught even though it was not perfect.
