As an international language, learning English is a need, and mastering the

even foreign language. Extensive listening is one type of listening used to
strengthen their listening skill. Not a few of the students are interested and enjoy
this way in their learning process. They’re getting more relax in acquiring new
words with listening to materials they like. Since, it can be done out of the class
with materials that appropriate with their comprehension level. Choosing English
song as the material for extensive listening is pleasurable situation for students,
because many of them like listening to English song, so they have more familiar
with the words that appear in the lyrics.
This research is centered on two issue formulations. First, is there any
correlation between students’ interest in extensive listening and their vocabulary
mastery on the 5th semester of TBI (English Teaching Learning Program) at IAIN
Madura Academic year 2022? The method used is quantitative approach with
correlation technique. To collect the data, researcher used two instruments, which
are questionnaire and test that will be filled out by 60 5th students of TBI as the
sample from 92 students in total population. Researchers used random sampling in
obtaining samples for filling out students’ interest in extensive listening to English
song questionnaires on a scale of 1-5(Likert Scale) and vocabulary test that
adopted from Paul Nation book 4, second edition.
The results of this study indicate that there is no correlation between the two
variables (Students’ Interest in Extensive Listening to English song and Their
Vocabulary Mastery). This is proven by the value of rxy= 0,238 where the
interpretation of the correlation between the two variables is 0.068 where the
value is more than 0.05. And with that the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted and
the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected.
