The Effect of Using Picture Series to Seventh Graders Storytelling Ability at Mts. Miftahul Ulum

Considering that students’ abilities are still low, this time the researcher plans to use
picture series with storytelling techniques that will improve students’ speaking skills. In
addition, picture series can motivate students to engage in every cmmunication of speaking
activities. The application of picture series in teaching storytelling is showing picture to
students, telling stories according to the picture given. Here, I divide into several groups after
that give a series of pictures in each group, ask students to make short notes from their stories
based on the pictures and ask students to tell the pictures that have been given in each group.
The purpose of this stutdy was to find out whether students who were taught to use
picture series in storytelling make their speaking ability better or not of the tenth grade at Mts.
Miftahul Ulum.
In this stutdy, the researcher used a quantitative design, while the design of this stutdy
was a Pre-experimental design in which the Pre-experimental design here used a test (pretestposttest). To collect data, the researcher used observation by entering the class, pre-test and
post-test scores.
The result of this study state that the use of picture series in storytelling speaking ability
of class X Mts Miftahul Ulum Ambunten it is effective and makes students speaking ability
better. Null hypothesis rejected and the alternative hypothesis accepted. It is evident from the
results that t is higher than t table. T table with a significance level of 5% is 1.992 with degree
of freedom 75, while the result of t is 17,17. In data analysis, the t in this study is higher than
the t-table in a significant level, this means that students who are taught to use picture series
become better in their speaking ability. So this alternative hypothesis is accepted
