The Difficulties Students’ Understanding Reading Narrative Texts in Online Learning in Grade 10 of SMAN 2 Pamekasan

Reading is one of the most important parts in the English language that provides many
benefits for us to know the content of the text. Reading activities are one of the ways for
students to get information from books, newspapers, magazines, articles and others. The
impact of Covid-19 has created an online learning system for education. The online learning
system is a challenge for educators to make students familiar with the material even though it
is not accompanied directly by the teacher. The difficulty experienced by educators is the
response of students who are too long during the learning process.
The focus of this research is what are the difficulties of students understanding in
reading narrative text in online learning at the TENTH grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan and
how to resolve difficulties of students understanding in reading narrative text in online
learning at the X MIPA 7 grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan.In this study using a descriptive
qualitative approach. Data collected from observations, interviews and documentation. The
informant of this study was a student of 10 Mipa 7 at SMAN 2 Pamekasan and one of the
English teachers at the school.
The results of student after reading the narrative text, of course, students will get
information from the text so that they can understand the content of the text. In understanding
narrative text, some students definitely need time to understand the content of the text. They
take a considerable amount of time to understand the text content of the narrative text. This
may happen because the language used in English text is different from the language they use
every day. Suggestions from researchers, student can add vocabulary in English to make it
easy and fast to understand English texts.
The solutions that students use in overcoming their difficulties in understanding the
content of narrative texts are very diverse. From the information that researchers get from the
answers of students above is that students are used to interpreting words or sentences using a
dictionary and translating them using applications. But there are also students who apply or
use the "Story Mapping" Technique.Suggestions from researchers should develop reading
comprehension such as reading strategies, reading skills and working on texts, because it will
be useful at the time of the reading question test
