The Comparison of English Vocabulary Mastery between IPA and IPS Majors at 12th Grade Students of MA.Al-Djufri Blumbungan Pamekasan

At the senior high school level, the majors are divided into two, well-known
in Indonesian as IPA (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam) sciences studies and IPS (Ilmu
Pegetahuan Sosial) social studies. As well as in MA. Al-Djufri Blumbungan
Pamekasan. Both majors have different characteristics of students and academic
learning. But they still have some same subjects. English subject is one of them. In
English subject, they certainly learned about vocabulary of English as second
language. By this case the researcher is interested to conduct a research with a
research problem, do the students IPA and IPS majors have significant difference on
the vocabulary mastery at the 12th grade students of MA. Al-Djufri Blumbungan
Pamekasan?. While the research objective of this research is to measure significant
difference between the students IPA and IPS on the vocabulary mastery at the 12th
grade students of MA. Al-Djufri Blumbungan Pamekasan. In this research uses
alternative hypothesis stated that the students of IPA and IPS majors have significant
difference on the vocabulary mastery at the 12th grade students of MA. Al-Djufri
Blumbungan Pamekasan.
This research uses ex-post facto, which is going compare IPA and IPS
students as independent variable and vocabulary mastery as dependent variable. The
researcher took sample by using cluster random sampling, because this research
consisted of two groups and had same material and treatment with same teacher. The
researcher chooses one class from IPA major and one class from IPS major that for
each classes consists of 20 students. So the total number of sample is 40 students. The
technique of data analysis used in statistical analysis exactly dependent t-test for two
small samples that are not related to analysis.
The result of this research showed that the students of IPA and IPS majors
have significant difference on the vocabulary mastery at the 12th grade students of
MA. Al-Djufri Blumbungan Pamekasan. It can be proven by the obtained (t0) is
higher than t table at the level significance 0,05 or 5% df: 38 in the table The result
of this research is important for teacher to know the differences of students’ abilities
and achievements. The researcher hopes that the teacher is able to help the students in
improving English especially in vocabulary. And for the students, it is suggested to
read and exercise more about vocabulary. For further researchers, the result of this
research is able to be used as references if want to conduct the research next time
