The Implementation of Asian Parliamentary Debate in Teaching Speaking at the Second Grade SMAN 1 Pakong

Teaching is conducted in the class, it is led by person called teacher. In the
process of teaching, teacher has important role in determining teaching learning
goals and how to achieve them. In order to make teaching learning process
succeed, teacher should be careful and accurate on selecting method. The chosen
method must be suitability with the topic of lesson, it aims to achieve the goal of
the topic of the lesson. Asian parliamentary debate is one of method in English
teaching learning process particularly in teaching speaking.
The focus of this research is on how the English teacher implement Asian
parliamentary debate on teaching speaking at the second grade SMAN 1 Pakong
and what are the advantages and disadvantages of the implementation of Asian
parliamentary debate on teaching speaking at the second grade SMAN 1 Pakong.
The first purpose of this research is to describe on how the teacher implements
Asian parliamentary debate on teaching speaking and the second is to find out the
advantages and disadvantages on the implementation of Asian parliamentary
debate on teaching speaking at the second grade SMAN 1 Pakong.
This research is conducted to describe on how the English teacher
implement Asian parliamentary debate on teaching speaking and to find out the
advantages and disadvantages on the implementation of Asian parliamentary
debate on teaching speaking. This research uses descriptive qualitative design.
The researcher uses three ways in collecting data namely observation, interview,
and documentation. Meanwhile, the subject of this research is the students at the
second grade SMAN 1 Pakong.
The result of the research can be concluded that Asian parliamentary
debate is the sequence of activity on teaching speaking the second grade class
with the purpose is to increase students’ speaking quality. The advantages of
Asian parliamentary debate is to help students to speak English fluently, train to
think quickly as well as critically, train students in expressing idea, increase
students’ motivation, and motivate students to learn more information dealing
with social issue. While the disadvantages of Asian parliamentary debate is
spending sufficient time selecting controversial topic, students sometimes don’t
have any background information to address the proposition, and need more time
to practicing debate activity.
