The Use of The English Spelling Bee Game in Teaching Vocabulary on The 9th Grade of SMP Islam An-Nidhomiyah

Vocabulary is one of the important aspects of language because vocabulary is an element
that links 4 skill in English, namely speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Therefore, the teacher
used the educational game method to improve students’ vocabulary and spell words well. The
game is spelling bee game.
There are 2 kind of research focus in this research. First, how does the teacher use the English
spelling bee game in teaching vocabulary on the 9th grade of SMP Islam An-Nidhomiyah. Second,
what are the students’ responses of using spelling bee game in vocabulary mastery on the 9th grade
of SMP Islam An-Nidhomiyah. it aims to describe the teacher use the English spelling bee game
and to find out the students’ responses of using the spelling bee game.
The researcher used qualitative approach with descriptive as kind of research. The researcher
collected data from observation, interview and documentation. To analyze the data, the researcher
used data reduction, data display and verification. Then the researcher used triangulation by
method and member checking for checking a credibility of the data.
The result of this study is the teacher used the English spelling bee game by dividing students
into 2 groups, asking the students to come forward, telling about the rules of the English spelling
bee game, singing the alphabet song together, reading the word obtained and spelling the word. So
on.
Based on the results of using the English spelling bee game in vocabulary mastery, the
students have a very good response. They are very enjoy and enthusiastic when learning
vocabulary by using the Spelling bee game. They are getting more confident, increase their English
vocabulary and spell words well
