The Use of Viral Song in Teaching Learning Vocabulary on Eight Grade at SMPN 1 Proppo Pamekasan

Songs generally contain about life’s problems of humans, the problem can be in the form
of problems that occur in himself and the problems between individuals with each other in
community life. Therefore, student will be more interesting with the lesson caused by similar
problem with their life. There are two research focuses that become the main study of this
research, namely: First, how does the teacher use of viral songs in learning vocabulary in class
VIII of SMPN 1 Proppo Pamekasan. Second, what are the strengthens and weakness of using viral
songs in vocabulary in teaching learning in class VIII SMPN 1 Proppo Pamekasan.
This research is a qualitative research and the type of research is descriptive. Data
collection was done by interview, observation and documentation. data analysis by doing data
reduction, data presenting and data verification. The data obtained is checked for the validity of the
data by triangulation.
The results of the study show the first, The use of viral songs in learning vocabulary in
Class VIII SMPN 1 Proppo Pamekasan, the researcher found several findings, including the
following: a). the teacher play the song several times and the students are asked to listen to a song,
b). students are asked to fill in the blanks with the correct words they hear in the song, c). Then the
teacher asked the students to discuss it. If students ask the meaning of the unknown word, the
teacher will give some clues or invite students to identify the description part of the unknown word
and then ask students to predict the meaning of the word. With this technique, students are
encouraged to memorize words better and develop students' vocabulary mastery, such as in terms
of pronunciation. Second, The advantages and disadvantages of using viral songs in learning
vocabulary in Class VIII SMPN 1 Proppo Pamekasan are as follows: a). The strengthness is that
the facilities and infrastructure owned by the institution are adequate such as tables, chairs,
stationery, sound systems, projectors and references at the SMPN 1 Proppo Pamekasan library. b)
The weakness is the lack of motivation that causes students to be lazy to follow the vocabulary
learning process and students are difficult to manage by the teacher, such as some students who are
still joking with their classmates when participating in the vocabulary learning process.
