The Analysis Of English Discussion Activity Based on Islamic Ethic of Discussion (Adabul Majlis) in The Eleventh Grade of Sumber Bungur Islamic Senior High School

Discussion is an activity that is form of brainstorming between two or more
people about a problem to achieve a particular goals. Discussion activity is
considered as an effective method to be selected. Discussion activity is a learning
method that used by English teacher of eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High
School of Sumber Bungur. Sumber Bungur Senior high School is a school that make
an islamic value for the orientation. The students of eleventh grade of Sumber
Bungur Islamic Senior High School must also reflect to that orientation in the
learning process. Although they are in English class, it is good for them to to apply
the Islamic value such as keeping the islamic ethic in their learning activity
including discussion activity to show that they are not only students of English
class, but also students of islamic school.
The research focus in this research are how is the discussion implementation
based on Islamic ethic of discussion (adabul majlis) in the eleventh grade of sumber
bungur Islamic senior high school and what are the students’ supporting and
inhibiting factors to behave in discussion activity based on Islamic ethic of
discussion in eleventh grade of English Subject at Sumber Bungur Islamic Senior
High School. In this research, the researcher uses qualitative research and
descriptive as kind of the research. The resercher uses three procedures to collect
the data. They are observation, interview and also documentation. For analyzing
the data, the researcher uses familiarizing and orgnaizing, coding and reducing, and
interpreting and representing. Then the researcher uses triangulation of data sources
and triangulation of method in checking the validity of the data.
The result of this research found by the researcher is that the students of
eleventh grade of Sumber Bungur Islamic Senior High School comprehend the
islamic ethic of discussion but their comprehension is not perfect because they
know their behavior in the discussion activity is good or not but do not know that it
is one of islamic ethic of discussion. Students behave based on Islamic ethic of
discussion; discussion good thing, thinking before speaking, speak clearly, softly,
and quitly, does not domiate the discussion and avoid arguing, and also listen well
someone explanation. The students supporting to behave based on Islamic ethic of
discussion are their background as muslim an also an islamic students, the teacher
control during the discussion activity in the classroom and also theri mood and
motivation to join the discussion activity. While the inhibiting factor are the
preparation and the explanation of the presenter and also the influence of their
friend that sit around them. Based on the result, Islamic ethic of discussion is
importamt for the students in learning activity including discussion activity.
Teacher and students have to aware about that.
