The Effectiveness of picture Series on Students Writing Descriptive Teks in Bata Bata English Center (BBEC)

Learning a language has a practical aim that is to enable the students to
communicate in that language. There are four prime skills involved in the mastery
of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. In the study English
materials are presented in such a way in order to cover those skills. Those
materials are divided into units of which consists of the following components:
structure, vocabulary and spelling. In this case, the writer wants to talk about one
of those skills that is writing. There are so many misunderstanding, happening in
the society and even by teachers at school because of their opinion that there is no
need to learn writing, because the ability of writing is in born talent. As a matter
of fact writing is subject that can be learnt by every one. Writing actually has a
very important role for the sustainability of human civilization.
Writing is called productive skill. It means that writing is a process in which the
writer produces something that contains about writer’s thoughts, feelings, or
ideas. Writing is important for students to learn how to think critically and
creatively. Writing improves a person’s ability to think concisely and clearly.
Students learn to organize their ideas in a cohesive and flowing manner. Writing
is an essential part of developing child. Actually writing is2
produce a text through activities from someone thought or idea which start from drafting until
revising and editing. Writing is the ability to describe or express the contents from the
simplest aspects such as writing words to complex aspects, namely composing.
In this research, the researcher used two research problems, they are: Is students’
writing in Bata-Bata English Centre (BBEC) better after taking picture series on their
descriptive text, and how significant is the effectiveness of picture series on descriptive text
of students’ writing in Bata Bata English Centre (BBEC) Boarding House Bata Bata
Palengaan Pamekasan.
Picture series is one of the media that support the process of brainstorming during the process
of writing as visual aids that stimulate to provide inspiration to express something. Picture
include all for of paintings or illustrations used and presented in language learning.
Pictures are common thing in the daily life and can be found everywhere and every time.
Picture can give clear explanation or strengthen the writing text. The reason why teacher can
use picture in teaching on the classroom is because pictures are easy to prepare therefore,
pictures can be found everywhere.
The technique of the data analysis used in the research is quantitative data analysis.
This is a technique used to analyze and count the data, to know the students’ skill on writing
descriptive text by using picture. In this study, the reseacher uses t-test or dependent t-test
measure the differences or the effectuveness between two variables.
Based on the finding of this research that the students taught writing descriptive text
using picture series in Bata Bata English Centre (BBEC) Boarding House Bata Bata
Palengaan Pamekasan have higher achievement than those who do not taught by using that
teaching media on writing descriptive text as well as there is an effectiveness of picture series
on descriptive text of students’ writing, picture series can increase the students’ ability of
writing descriptive text
