“ The Students’ Perception Toward Their Speaking Ability (Without Memorizing Vocabulary) at Al-Falah Senior High School Sumber Gayam Kadur ”

Speaking is ability that is used by all creatures including people and using
vocabulary according to their respective countries, so it takes a good and appropriate
communication to be understood. And there are several perceptions of students to easily
understand the ability to speak in English by memorizing vocabulary or not using this
method, so that students' perceptions regarding the ability to speak in English by
memorizing vocabulary or not are very closely related.
This study takes two problems, namely: how are students' perceptions of the
ability to speak English without memorizing vocabulary and also what are the difficulties
of students in understanding the ability to speak English with other people with the aim
of knowing how students' perceptions of the ability to speak English without memorizing
vocabulary are and the students’ knows the difficulties in speaking English without
memorizing vocabulary in the tenth class at Al-Falah High School (SMA) Sumber
Gayam Kadur Pamekasan.The research method used by the researcher is a qualitative
approach while the design used is a descriptive qualitative approach that is in accordance
with the data from interviews, observations and documentation. The data in this study
were taken from teachers and students, namely as a source of data from 29 grade 10
students both majoring in science and social studies and one English teacher.
The results of this study are two processes of grouping students, namely students'
perceptions of the ability to speak without memorizing vocabulary and students'
difficulties regarding the ability to speak with other people without memorizing
vocabulary, so that the research process is in accordance with the problems that occur in
the school. The perception is divided into five types, among others: visual perception,
auditory perception, haptic perception, olfactory perception, and taste perception. but in
this study there were only two perceptions based on the data obtained by researchers,
namely visual perception and auditory perception, while in student difficulty there were
three types of problems that occurred, among others: difficulty in memorizing, lack of
interest in learning English and frequent listening to Indonesian songs. Based on the
research above, it was found that students' perception of speaking ability without
memorizing vocabulary was easier and more interesting to practice than memorizing
what happened at Al-Falah High School Sumber Gayam Kadur Pamekasan.
