Cheating Behaviour on a Film entitled “Bad Genius” in Hetherington and Feldman’s Perspective

Cheating is not a strange phenomenon could be found in the world of
education. It could happen while doing exam or task. This academic dishonesty is
not only found in elementary school or junior high school, but it can also be found
in higher education. It happens in some countries proven by some news dealing
with this issue. The cheaters cheat because of some things as like having less
moral education both at home and school, less understanding with the meaning of
education, less preparation for exam, etc. They do it as if they do not consider the
bad impact would be got. It even can destroy their character.
Dealing with cheating behaviour, the researcher analyses “Bad Genius”
film using Hetherington and Feldman’s perspective. Hetherington and Feldman
classified this kind of academic dishonesty into 4 types. There are social active,
social passive, individualistic opportunistic, as well as independent planned.
The researcher uses qualitative approach with content analysis as its kind
of research. The primary source used is “Bad Genius” film to find out the data
needed. While the secondary source, it refers to books and journals that deals with
cheating behaviour. To collect the data, the researcher uses observation and
documentation. Familiarizing and organizing, coding and reducing, as well as
interpreting and representing are used to analyse the data.
The result shows that there are 4 types of cheating performed in this film
based on Hetherington and Feldman’s perspective. There are giving answer on
eraser, giving piano code, giving answer through smartphone as social passive;
individualistic opputunistic that involves taking answer on eraser and switch
answer sheet; making note that belongs to independent planned; as well as looking
at piano code as social active type. To avoid cheating behaviour, teacher could use
some ways, as like implementing assigned seating, checking the students before
coming to the test room, supervising the students well, providing different
questions, and providing oral test
