Good and Poor Spelling in Students’ Speaking Skill at The Seventh Class of MTs. Al – Hasan Gili Genting Sumenep

Spelling is one of basic component in learning English that should be
mastered to make learners more fluent in their speaking. But learning spelling is
not easy because learner should memorize the sound and the letter of word.
Moreover, English language is as the second language. Sometimes, their accent
and their pronunciation are still influenced.
In thesis, researcher interests to conduct a research about the comparison
and differences speaking skill between students who have good and poor spelling.
Even though all English learners learned about spelling but not all of them have
good spelling, which spelling can help them to increase English skill such as
writing, reading and also speaking. The research problem of this research are “Do
students who have good spelling have good speaking and who have poor spelling
have poor spelling have bad speaking?” and “How significant is the comparison
between students who have good and poor spelling in speaking skill at the seventh
class of MTs. Al – Hasan Gili Genting Sumenep?”
This thesis used test and questionnaires as the instrument in collecting the
data, which the test was applied into independent t test theory. Population and
sampling of this thesis are all students of the seventh class of Mts. Al – Hasan Gili
Genting Sumenep which is consist about 50 students and used random sample.
The result of this research is showed that students who have good spelling
have significant difference with students who have poor spelling. It is proved the
score of students who have good spelling is higher than students who have poor
spelling, it can be known that t – value of this research is higher than t – table in
significant 5% is about 5,639 > 2, 01
