“The Analysis of students’ difficulties in translating argumentative texts from English to Indonesian at the eleventh graders of MAN Sampang”
Keywords: Translation, Argumentation
Translation is a general term that refers to the transfer of thoughts and ideas from one
language (source) to another (target), whether the language is in spoken written form, whether
the language is not standardized or whether one or both languages are based on signs such as
ideal language sign.
Based on the explanation above, there are two research objectives of this study. The
first is to find out what factors are the difficulties of students in translating argumentative texts
from English to Indonesian in class XI MAN Sampang. And the second is to find out how
students translate argumentative text from English to Indonesian in class XI MAN Sampang.
In this research, the researcher used a qualitative approach, while the type of research
used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative. In collecting data, the researcher used three
techniques, namely: observation, interview, and documentation techniques that describe the
difficulties in translating English into Indonesian. The population in this research were students
of class XI MAN Sampang.
The results showed that students used several translation methods, such as free
translation. And also in the translation process students have gone through the right process,
but maybe they don't understand the process they are doing.
Based on the results above, it is recommended for teacher students to have prepared in
advance the translation material that will be studied at school, so that they understand what is
contained in the translation, and also how the translation process is good. Hopefully this
research provides new knowledge for all, especially in the context of education.
