STUDENTS' AUDITORY LEARNING STYLE LEARNING VOCABULARY AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMA MIFTAHUL ULUM AMBUNTEN SUMENEP

Learning style can be defined as the multiple ways in learning process,
depending upon on one’s perspective. Different characteristics of the learners may
have different learning style. One of the kinds of the learning style is auditory
learning style where the learners learn mostly by hearing. They are good in
remembering something when they hear the information. This learning style can
be used to learn one of the English components which very important to master,
namely vocabulary. To communicate with others using a foreign language,
everyone must know the vocabulary of the target language to avoid
misunderstanding both speaker and hearer. Therefore, vocabulary becomes
important in language teaching and learning. However, learning vocabulary is not
as easy as you think because English vocabulary is very different with our first
language. So that, the learners need a specific context so that it will help them in
remembering new vocabulary. In this case the researcher is interested to analyze
the auditory learning style in learning vocabulary at eleventh grade students of
SMA Miftahul Ulum Ambunten. The researcher is going to know how is the
process of students in senior high school to enrich their vocabulary use this
learning style.
There are two research focuses in this research, they are; how the process
of students’ auditory learning style in learning vocabulary at eleventh grade of
SMA Miftahul Ulum Ambunten Sumenep is and what the benefit of using
auditory learning style in learning vocabulary at eleventh grade students of SMA
Miftahul Ulum Ambunten Sumenep are.
The researcher designed this research into a qualitative approach. In
collecting the data, the researcher uses three instruments such; interview,
observation and documentation. For analyzing the data, the researcher uses data
condensation, data display and drawing and verifying conclusions. Then, the
researcher uses triangulation, member checking and external audit in checking the
validity of the data.
The result of this research which was found by the researcher that the
auditory learners learn vocabulary through many ways such learning while
listening to music, prefer joining class discussion, listening vocabulary again and
again, using Google translate, using digital dictionary, asking for help to someone
who knows English more, and also learn vocabulary twice or more in a day. All
these ways used by the auditory learners inside and outside the class. They said
that those ways can help them in enriching new vocabulary quickly. Those ways
relate with the characteristic of the auditory learners. There are also the benefitsvi
which they get when they are learning used this learning style such as they can be
faster to remember, they feel easier to memorize, they feel enjoy to learn, they can
have a strong memory and also remember the word without memorize it. From
those findings of the auditory learners at eleventh grade students of SMA Miftahul
Ulum, the researcher gets the conclusion that the auditory learners can be called
the active learners because all those ways that is used need to interact with other
person.
Every student has their own style to learn, so that the teacher is forced to
understand them in order to give the perfect learning time. Furthermore, the
researcher gives the suggestion to the teacher to give the attention to the students
and try to understand their learning style so that the students can learn using their
own style perfectly. Do not force them to follow the teacher’s want, but the
teacher should to join the student ways. It can be one of the strategies to make
them easier in learning. The suggestion for the students, they have to know their
own learning style in order to make the learning enjoyable. Knowing our learning
style is very important in order to know our capability in teaching learning
process.
