THE APPLIED OF DISCUSS METHOD BY USING PICTURE MEDIA IN TEACHING SPEAKING AT TENTH GRADE VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL DARUL FALAH PRGANTENAN

In the context of education, the choice of learning methods by the teacher
must be considered because it will affect students’ understanding. Basically, all
learning methods used in the learning process are good, but their success depends
how the teacher chooses the method to be applied in the classroom because in the
selection of learning methods appropriate, will make students more receptive to
learning material. The right learning method can make teaching and learning
activities more interesting so that the students do not get bored, students receive
learning material more easily, and allow students to master learning better. The
discussion method by using pictures media is one of the methods that are suitable
for learning English, especially in teaching learning speaking.
There are two research focuses in this research. The first, how does the
teacher apply the discussion method by using pictures media in teaching learning
speaking at tenth grade Vocational High School Darul Falah Pegantenan. The
second, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the applied discussion
method by using pictures media in teaching learning speaking at tenth grade
vocational high school.
This research use qualitative approach, and the kind of the research is
descriptive. The researcher use observation, interview, and documentation to
collect the data. The data analysis used by the researcher are data condensation,
data display and data verification. The triangulation technique is used by the
researcher to check the validity of the data.
The researcher was concluded that the discussion method applied by the
teacher is by the theory that has been described, which the teacher applies by
giving examples of materials, pictures, dividing students into several groups,
asking students to discuss it with their each groups, then asking them to practice
it in front of the class. While the advantages of the discussion method by using
pictures media in teaching learning speaking at SMK Darul Falah Pegantenan, this
method make it easier for students to speak English, and also make it easier
student to understand the material and make students more confident to appear to
speak in front of the class, students become more active in participating when they
discuss the material in groups, the discussion methods can train students to gain
new knowledge, through the discussion method students will exchange their ideas
and they become more often ask question the teacher when they do not understandv
the material. While the disadvantages of this method, frequent conversation in
discussions are controled by two or three sudents who have speaking skills and
sometimes the discussion method make some students less serious in the lesson,
because during discussions or when they are exchanging opinions that explain is
their friend.
