THE STUDY ON READABILITY OF ENGLISH TEACHING MATERIAL USED BY THE ENGLISH TEACHER AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMK AL-FUDHOLA PAMEKASAN

Material are anything which used to help the teacher and learner in
teaching learning process. Most people associate the term 'language-learning
materials' with coursebooks because that has been their main experience of using
material. Material can be anything which deliberately used to increase the
learner's knowledge and/or experience of the language. While, English material is
information or ideas used in creating a book on anything which is used to help to
teach language learner which consist of used English as a language in the book
There are two research focus in this study: first, what kind of english
teaching material are used by the english teacher at the tenth grade of SMK AlFudhola Pamekasan. Second, how are the readability of english teaching material
used by the english teacher at the tenth grade of SMK Al-Fudhola Pamekasan.
This is a qualitative research,the researcher collected the data from
observation, interviews, and documentation. From the data are collected, the
researcher can know what kind of English teaching material are used by the
English teacher at the tenth grade of SMK Al-Fudhola Pamekasan. And also to
describe how the readability of english teaching material used by the english
teacher at the tenth grade of SMK Al-Fudhola Pamekasan.
The result of this research showed that there are two kinds of English
teaching material used by the English teacher at SMK Al-Fudhola Pamekasan.The
first one is Textbook, the teacher used textbook in teaching learning process to
give explanation the material. The second one is Handout, the teacher used
handout to provide additional information not found in the textbook.
Based on the result of the research above, the researcher concludes that
kinds of English teaching material used by the English teacher namely textbook
and handout. And the readability level of textbook which readable with readability
score 50-60. It can be classified these are fairly difficult according to Flesch
Reading Ease readability formula.And the sample are two text of the textbook
namely highest and lowest readability level and as many as 22 texts. The
maximum and minimum readability level of the sample text are 194.856 and
39.483. The range is 155.373. Additionally, the mean is 1.581 is
respectively.While, the result of readability level of three of handout.The
maximum and minimum readability level of handbook as the sample text are
83.241 and 58.249.the range is 24.992. Additionally, the mean is 70.989 is
respectively.
