THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIEVES STRATEGY IN READING NARRATIVE TEXT AT NINTH GRADE OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1 PADEMAWU

English is an international language and in English there are four skills that must be
mastered to increase our ability. These skills are; reading, speaking, writing, and listening.
Reading is one of the important skills in English and it gives many benefits for us and also by
reading we can open the window of the world. Reading is an activity to know the contents of
the text. It is one of the way to get someone information from books, newspaper, article, or
others. In teaching learning process, the teacher needs some strategy to make the class feel
ejoyable and make the students easy to understand about the material. In this research the
teacher use THIEVES strategy in teaching reading narrative text. THIEVES strategy is one of
strategy to make the students easy to understand about the contents of text. With the strategy
students learn how “steal” information from the title, heading, introduction, every first
sentence in paragraph, visual / vocabulary, ending and summary.
The research focus of this research is how does the teacher implement the THIEVES
strategy in reading narrative text at ninth grade of junior high school 1 Pademawu? and what
are the advantages and disadvantages of THIEVES strategy in reading narrative text at ninth
grade of junior high school 1 Pademawu.?
In this research use descriptive qualitative. The data mostly gathered from the
observation, interview and documentation. The number of the students is twenty seven
students. The data analysis that is used by researcher are data reduction, data display and
verification.
The result from this study shows that the teacher implement THIEVES strategy in
teaching reading narrative text that can help the teacher easy to explain the material
especially in teaching reading narrative text and the students can easy to get or to know the
contents of the text without read all the sentences in all paragraph, because with THIEVES
strategy the students will learn how to steal information from the title, heading, introduction,
every first sentence in paragraph, visual / vocabulary, ending and summary. So it can make
the students easy to get the point of text.
Finally, based on the result of this research the strategy namelly THIEVES strategy is
very important and useful to be implement in teaching learning process especially in teaching
reading narrative text. Because it can make the teacher assisted to make the students easy to
understand the material.
