THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING APPROACH IN TEACHING ENGLISH WRITING SKILL OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT THE SEVENTH GRADE OF MTS MIFTAHUL ULUM BANYU AYU PAMOROH KADUR PAMEKASAN

Basically, writing gives chance to the students to express and share their idea
in written form. But in fact, most of students in the classroom are work-shy to practice
writing in writing skill. The students are lack of motivation from the teacher to write
and the teacher also does not use a technique, a strategy or an appropriate method
which can make students encouraged to write. Therefore, the teacher applies CTL
approach to make the teaching learning process of writing skill successful and the
target of teaching can be reached well. Because the teaching learning process will be
successful if the teacher can apply a suitable approach of teaching which the material
taught in the classroom.
There are three research focuses in this study. The first, how does the teacher
implement Contextual Teaching and Learning approach.The second and the third,
what are the advantages and the disadvantages of implementing Contextual Teaching
and Learning on Teaching English Writing of Descriptive Text at the Seventh Grade
of MTs Miftahul Ulum Banyu Ayu Pamoroh Kadur Pamekasan.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative approach. While kind of
research, the researcher uses descriptive research. Because the researcher describes
the implementation of CTL approach in teaching writing skill at the seventh grade of
MTs Miftahul Ulum Banyu Ayu Pamoroh Kadur Pamekasan, and what are the
advantages and the disadvantages of that approach. To collect the data, the researcher
used observation by entering to the classroom directly, interviewed with the students
and the teacher, and documented by taking picture in the teaching learning process.
To analyze the data the researcher uses three steps namely: data reduction, data
display as well as conclusion/verification while to prove whether the data valid or not,
the researcher uses triangulation of data.
The result of this research found that the implementation of CTL approach in teaching
writing skill at the seventh grade of MTs Miftahul Ulum Banyu Ayu used three steps.
They are pre-teaching where the teacher gave warming up by questioning based on
the topic teaching, whilst-teaching where the teacher applies the CTL approach with
its components on every single activities done thoroughly as questioning, inquiry,
learning community, constructivism and reflection, and post-teaching where the
teacher gave conclusion and reflection, and closed the lesson. This approach provided
some advantages such as: it increased and built up the students’ learning result as well
as their understanding of the topic, it engaged the students in writing activity as well.
Besides, it provided the disadvantages such as: It needed much times to implement the
curriculum through the class, it required the students to be creative and active in every
sessions of classroom activities, while every students has different abilities.Based on the result of research above, Contextual Teaching and learning
approach is effective to be implemented in the teaching writing skill because it can
increase students’ motivation, achievement, enthusiastic and develop their English
skill. The teacher also implemented it quite well. Therefore, the teaching learning
process of writing was successful.
