Keywords: Intrinsic Motivation. Writing narrative text
Learning to write requires motivation that can make students study
seriously. Intrinsic motivation is very important and suitable for students who learn
to write narrative texts properly and correctly. SMPN 1 Camplong has a K13
curriculum in which students must be more active in learning who must also be
capable of High Order Thinking (HOT). In this case students follow the learning of
narrative text writing taught by the teacher, of course the teacher provides
motivation and encourages student motivation by giving direction at each meeting.
Students who learn about writing skills properly and correctly, students need
intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is from individuals to do things based on
their will.
The researcher formulated two questions (1) What is the intrinsic motivation
of students to write narrative texts in the second grade of SMPN 1 Camplong? (2)
What are the factors the intrinsic motivation of students writing narrative texts in
the second grade of SMPN 1 Camplong?
This study uses descriptive qualitative text research to conduct research with
three data collection techniques: Observation, interview and documentation. Then,
researchers present or group data based on the focus of the study. After that the
researcher continues by checking the data to get valid data. The next, collecting the
data, the researcher see analysis as three concurrent flows of activity: (1) data
condensation, (2) data display, and (3) conclusion drawing/verification. Data of
triangulation that is chosen by the researcher is technical triangulation. It means that
the researcher compares the result of interview, the result of observation, and also
documentation.
Intrinsic motivation of students includes: (a) free choice. The student
realizes that the decision to choose to learn more deeply about narrative text writing
is of their own choice. (b) interest and enjoyment. There are nine students who like
English because of their interest and pleasure. (c) facilitate. Learning English makes
it easy for students to fulfill their obligations as students to learn to write properly
and correctly. (d) autonomy. One of the intrinsic motivations influences learners to
depend on themselves in determining to learn from their willingness to learn more
deeply. Researchers interviewed several students to find data to answer the second
question. The question is related to factors that influence students' motivation to
write narrative texts at SMPN 1 Camplong. The factors are: (1) challenges, (2)
recognition, (3) curiosity, (4) control, (5) fantasy, (6) competition, (7) cooperation,
(8) physical conditions, (9) methods, (10) teachers, (11) success.
It is recommended that teachers pay more attention to students' intrinsic
motivation to move students to be more active in participating in learning at SMPN
