BETTER is the abbreviation of Bright English of Talented program, BETTER is
designed to be a group of member to discuss about everything dealing with English. They
have certain schedule to discuss about speaking, structure, pronunciation or even linguistic.
The students sometimes have difficulties in understanding the prepositional phrase using tree
diagram. In teaching learning proses, the tutor prepare all material dealing with English for
example in syntax, they will prepare all the materials dealing with syntax either from noun
phrase, adjective phrase and also prepositional phrase. The student will get enough
understanding from the material that already served by the tutor. Sometime the member have
an error on how they analyse the syntax expecially prepositional phrase. beside that the
member use tree diagram to analyse the sentence namely syntax. In this case the researcher
wants to conduct a research about Error analysis of prepositional phrase using tree diagram in
syntax at Bright English of taented program (BETTER) at IAIN Madura.
In this research, there are three research focuses, the are: What are the errors in
analyzing prepositional phrase using tree diagram at Bright English of talented Program
(BETTER) at IAIN Madura, How to analyze the errors of prepositional phrase using tree
diagram at Bright English of Talented Program (BETTER) at IAIN Madura and What are the
factors cause the members do an error in analyzing prepositional phrase using tree diagram at
Bright English of Talented Program (BETTER) at IAIN Madura.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative as an approach of this research. The
researcher uses three instruments in collecting the data; observation, interview, and
documentation. For analyzing the data, the researcher uses data reduction, data display, and
drawing and verifying conclusions. Then the researcher uses triangulation of data source in
checking the validity of data.
The result of this research that found by the researcher is: The member get an error on
how they analyse the sentence expecially in analyzing prepositonal phrase is in determining
the word class. Beside that the students also get an error in analyzing prepositional phrase,
the member mark the word with wrong word classification so that it cause the member
difficult to find the prepositonal phrase. In this case the researcher can take a conclusion
from the members test that most of the member have an error on determinig the word class
and analyzing the prepositional phrase. The second, the reseacher can conclude that how to
analyse the error is by knowing the difficulties of the member and by analysing each of their
test. The last is the researcher conclude that the members factor are because they forget about
the word classification, and the members also difficult to distinguish between preposition and
conjuntion, also the member have ittle vocabulry mastery and the last is the member do not
master the material before doin a test
