THE STUDY OF STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN WRITING ENGLISH PAPER ON FOURTH SEMESTER STUDENTS OF ENGLISH TEACHING LEARNING PROGRAM OF IAIN MADURA IN 2019-2020 ACADEMIC YEAR

Writing is process of generating ideas, person’s ability to communicate information to someone or others. Writing is not only an activity of arranging words into phrases, phrases into sentences, but also thinking about how to express and organize them into good statements and paragraphs. In teaching learning process the students often get the assignments from the lecturer to make papers, research reports and theses in English.
This research was aimed at identify the 4th semester students’ difficulties in writing English paper on fourth semester students of English Department in IAIN Madura and to find out the factors that cause students’ difficulties in writing English paper. It was because of researcher’s experience that the students that have learnt how to write English paper in the first semester are still get difficulty to writ English paper when in the fourth semester.
This research used descriptive qualitative research method in finding out the answer of problem of the study. The subject of this study are the students of fourth semester English Department IAIN Madura. The data is gotten from the interview to the students and collecting the students’ English paper as the documentation. From the data the researcher could observe and from the data the researcher can attach as proof that the data is valid.
The result, researcher found the 4th semester students’ difficulties in writing English paper, those are: Linguistic difficulty, the students have low grammar knowledge and low vocabularies. Physiology difficulty, they are difficult to pour thir ideas in writing and difficult to find the references that appropriate with the material of paper. Cognitive difficulty, they get difficulty to arrange the English paper based on the regulation and systematic structure that are arranged in the regulation of academic writing of their college. The factors that cause students’ difficulties are caused of lack of practicing to write English writing especially English paper, lack of grammatical structure, lack of knowledge about the systematical structure of English paper, lack of vocabularies and the difficulty to find the references of paper’s material. In addition the regulation that are ruled by the college about the academic writing is also become the factor that makes student’s difficulties in writing English paper.
