THE USE OF ENGLISH SUBTITLE ON THE FISHERMAN AND HIS WIFE'S SHORT MOVIE IN TEACHING VOCABULARY AT TENTH GRADE OF MA NURUL ISLAM SUMENEP

Vocabulary is very important as it helps students catch many informations delivered in English learning process. Without knowledge of vocabulary, the students cannot develop the four English skills because vocabulary is one of the most important component of any language classes so that teaching vocabulary is not easy as we think. Teacher must have interest method to teach vocabulary in order the students can learn English with comfortable and enchant way.
Sometimes some students complained about the meaning of words and how to pronounce the words. The students also have a difficulties to improve their English vocabulary. Therefore, students need a media to learn more vocabulary in teaching learning process. So teacher have to aproach by slowly but in another side teacher also has a goal to make their student understand about the material that will be given. In this case, English subtitle on the short movie is appropriate thing to recognize new words or vocabulary in English study. It is also supposed to give the positive thing or energy to students in their vocabulary competence. It caused the students can practice their listening and reading skill when they watch movie with English subtitle besides that students also learn how to identify a new vocabulary that they acquire on the movie played.
This study uses qualitative approach, which is to know certain phenomena called the use of English subtitle on the Fisherman and His Wife’s short movie in teaching vocabulary. The data source in this study taken at Tenth grade of MA Nurul Islam Sumenep especially for IPA 2 class through observation, interview and documentation. But for interview sections, the researcher interviewed fifteen students from twenty six students in the classroom.
The result of the research show that English subtitle on the Fisherman and His Wife’s short movie at Tenth grade IPA 2 of MA Nurul Islam is so good. That case is proved by the existence of the situation changes during the movie watching, all of the students more excited and talk active, sometimes they tried to pronounce the English word or imitated of the native speaker said on the movie and then the students more gain many English vocabularies after they watched a movie. it is also proved when the teacher gave a task to write new vocabularies that students’ acquire on the text of subtitle of movie. Therefore, most of them can answer it.
