THE USE OF SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION METHOD IN TEACHING LEARNING VERBAL AND NOMINAL SENTENCE OF SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE AT THE SEVENTH GRADE OF MTS MIFTAHUL ULUM NURUL JADID SAMPANG

Small group discussion is a learning process by doing small group so that the students have skills to solve the problem of principle material and matter confronted in their daily life. To teach verbal and nominal of simple present tense sometime needed method to help the teacher in teaching them. At Mts Miftahul Ulum Nurul Jadid Sampang, the teacher used the method in teaching the students.
There are three problem statements of this research. the first one is how the teacher uses small group discussion method in teaching learning verbal and nominal sentence at the seventh grade of Mts Miftahul Ulum Nurul Jadid Sampang. The second is what are the students’ responses of the use of small group discussion method in teaching learning verbal and nominal sentence at the seventh grade of Mts sMiftahul Ulum Nurul Jadid Sampang. The last one is what are the advantages and disadvantages of small group discussion method in learning verbal and nominal sentence at the seventh grade of Mts Miftahul Ulum Nurul Jadid Sampang.
This research used qualitative approach, while the kind of research used by researcher was descriptive qualitative. In collecting data, the researcher used three techniques. Those are: observation, interview and documentation.
The result small group discussion in learning verbal and nominal showed that teacher could use it successfully in teaching them. It also showed that the students more spirit in teaching learning activity and students were able to make sentence, were able to make different between verbal and nominal sentence of simple present tense. In addition, small group discussion made the students motivate more to learn verbal and nominal of simple present tense.
Based on the result above, it was suggested for English teacher to know the method or technique that is suitable with the students’ skill in study English, give more motivation in order the students more spirit in every activity in the class room. It was also suggested for students to pay attention to the teacher motivation and all of the teacher instruction in learning English and to support the teacher in creating a good in the class by using small group discussion.
