THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GIVING REWARD AND PUNISHMENT STRATEGIES IN TEACHING ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILL AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF MA AL-HASBANAH PROPPO PAMEKASAN

Giving reward and punishment strategies is often use in teaching learning by some of teacher, The teacher should choose suitable strategy in teaching English. There are four skill in teaching learning English are listening, writing, reading and speaking. Speaking is important skill related to language as tool for interaction each other. So the teacher use the reward and punishment strategies in teaching learning English speaking skill.
There are two research focuses in this research are how does the implementation of giving reward and punishment strategies by the teacher, and how does the student’s responses related to implementation of giving reward and punishment. In this research researcher use descriptive qualitative research that the data explain in word, the researcher as passive participant, the data source in this research is teacher and students at eleventh grade of MA Alhasbanah Proppo Pamekasan. The data collection procedure in this research use interview, observation and documentation in analysing the data.
The result of this research found there are three steps in implementation of giving reward and punishment strategies on speaking skill of student at eleventh grade of MA ALhasbanah Proppo Pamekasan The three steps are pre-teaching, whilst-teaching and post- teaching in implementation of reward and punishment strategies. When teacher applied the reward and punishment strategies students give good responses perhaps the student want to get reward or the student afraid if getting punishment, but most of student try to speak to avoid the punishment
Based on this research, the researcher can make conclusion that the reward and punishment strategies can invite the students for speak up in teaching speaking lesson. Because the students feel interest when get the reward and try to avoid the punishment all of the student’s response can motivate the student for speak up on participation in the classroom teaching and learning.
Based on this research the researcher suggest for educator to use reward and punishment strategies, the strategy to improve student’s brave and motivation in teaching English learning. For student the student should practice their speaking akill with their friends not only in inside but also outside of the classroom, suggestion for the researcher to always learn and improve the ability in conducting the research to make result of research better.
