A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN EXTROVERT AND INTROVERT PERSONALITY ON LISTENING ACHIEVEMENT ON THE FOURTH SEMESTER STUDENTS OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AT IAIN MADURA

Listening is the most frequently used language skill in every daily life. Listening is the part in communication, through listening we can share our ideas with other people. The success or failure of students’ academic life depends on a large extent upon their listening ability. But, one thing which has to remember that personal characteristic of each individuals has important role to determine their preferences and performances.
That theory makes the researcher interested to conduct a comparative research in TBI of IAIN Madura. There are two problem statements in this study. The first one is do extrovert students have better in listening achievement than introvert students at the fourth semester of English Department at IAIN Madura. The second one is how significant the difference between introverted and extroverted students at the fourth semester of English Department at IAIN Madura on their listening achievement.
This research is used quantitative as research approach and Ex-post facto or casual comparative as research design. The population is 130 of fourth semester students which consists of 36 students who are characterize as introverted students and 94 students who are characterize as extroverted students. Stratified random sampling technique has been selected to decide the number of sample which consists of 65 students which are divided in 18 of introverted students and 47 of extroverted students. In gaining the data, three kinds of instruments have been used namely questionnaire, test, and documentation. The data were analyzed by using independent t-test formula.
The result shown that there is significant difference between introverted and extroverted students at the fourth semester students of English Department at IAIN Madura on their listening achievement. The total score and the mean score of introverted students is higher than extroverted students. T-test consultation shown data analysis t-value 0f 0,378 is significantly less than t-table on level 5% that is 2,00 in degree of freedom 60 (the closest figures of 63). It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected
