THE INFLUENCE OF USING DIGITAL ENGLISH DICTIONARY ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT THE THIRD SEMESTER OF ENGLISH TEACHING LEARNING PROGRAM OF IAIN MADURA

Reading is an interactive communication between writer and reader. Reading comprehension means the reader can understand the content on the text. But only a few students who do that especially read English text book. One of the reasons is because they lack of vocabularies. Dictionary is a tool which is used by learners to help them in looking for an unfamiliar word on the English text. Now days, learners prefer like used to digital dictionary than printed dictionary. They consider that digital dictionary is faster and easier than printed dictionary.
There are two research problems in this research. The first is do the more often students use digital English dictionary the better reading comprehension at third semester of English Teaching Learning Program of IAIN Madura. The second is how the significant level of digital English dictionary supports the students reading comprehension at the third semester of English Teaching Learning Program of IAIN Madura.
This research uses quantitative approach which the data analyzed by using statistical technique. This research uses correlation of product moment which consists of two variables. They are variable X (the use digital English dictionary) and variable Y (student’s reading comprehension). The population in this research is the third semester students of English Teaching Learning Program of IAIN Madura. The researcher used cluster sampling to determine the sample in this research.
The result showed that there is no correlation between the use of digital English dictionary to the student’s reading comprehension at third semester students of English Teaching Learning Program of IAIN Madura. It is proven from the value of rxy (-0,025) lower than the value of “r” product moment in significant level 5% with 0,325.
