Mastering speaking skill is necessary for all students. Many students
take success in speaking skill as the main priority in learning a foreign
language, because mastering speaking skill is a measurement whether they
have mastered the other skills. However, it is not a simple case. The fact
shows that there are some students still have difficulties in speaking skill.
There are many factors that influence the successful in speaking skill and or in
academic achievement. One of them is psychological types. All students have
different psychological types especially brain dominance, some of them are
left hemisphere dominance and others are right one.
There are two main research problems in this research they are do
speaking skill of left hemisphere dominance students at the third semester of
TBI IAIN Madura is better than their right one?. The second research problem
is there any statistically significant difference between left hemisphere
dominance students and the right one at the third semester of TBI IAIN
Madura in speaking skill? The purposed of this research was to compare the
speaking skill between left hemisphere dominance students and their right one
at the third semester of TBI IAIN Madura.
This research is quantitative approach with causal comparative or expost facto research design. There are two variables of this research; they are
dominance hemisphere as independent variable and speaking skill as
dependent variable. There are 142 students at the third semester of IAIN
Madura as the target population. While the sample itself is 40 students which
is taken by using random sampling technique. The researcher used
questionnaire and speaking test as the instrument. The acquired data from the
questionnaire and speaking test the will be analyzed using independent t-test
formula.
The result of this study shows that there is significant difference
between left hemisphere dominance students and the right one at the third
semester of TBI IAIN Madura in speaking skill. It is shown in data analysis tvalue of 2.539 is significantly higher than t-table on significant level 5% that
is only 2.02. (t0 > tt; 2.539 > 2.02; level of significance 5%, df = 40). The
result also confirms that different psychological types (brain dominance) of
the students give the difference effect to the students’ language skill.
