THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MIND MAPPING STRATEGY IN TEACHING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT FOR THE STUDENTS IN THE SEVENTH GRADE OF MTS NURUL AMIN LENTENG SUMENEP

Mind mapping is a visual thingking tool that can be applied to all cogninitive function especially memory, learning, creativity and analysis. Mind mapping is one of the effective strategy in teaching writing skill. Writing is very important because writing is one of skills that make the language become the written text that can be read by the others. Descriptive text is one of writing skills that should be learned by junior high school students.Descriptive text is a factual description which describes a particular person, place or thing. The purpose is to tell the subject by describing its feature without including personal opinion.
The focuses of this study are how does the teacher implement the mind mapping strategy in teaching descriptive text for the students in the seventh grade of MTs Nurul Amin Lenteng Sumenep and what are the strengths and weaknesses of mind mapping strategy in teaching descriptive text for the students in the seventh grade of MTs Nurul Amin Lenteng Sumenep. While the objective of this focuses are to know how the teacher implemented and to investigate what are the strengths and weaknesses of mind mapping strategy in teaching descriptive text for the students in the seventh grade of MTs Nurul Amin Lenteng Sumenep.
This research use qualitative design. The researcher use three ways to get the data. They are observation, interview and documentation. While the subject of this research is the students in the seventh grade of MTs Nurul Amin Lenteng Sumenep.
The result of this research shows that the teacher can implement this strategy by using three step to implement the mind map such as draw a picture/write a topic in the center of blackboard, draw lines/branch and write one key word on each branch. By using mind mpping strtegy the students cn write descriptive text very well. The strenght of this strategy aremake the students more focus in finding the ideas, quickly undestand when make descriptive text and enjoy in learn about descriptive text. While the weakness of this strategy is limited ideas.
Based on the result above the researcher suggest that let the students make mind mapping by their own ideas. It means that the teacher just give the topic to the students and ask them to make mind mapping. It is can make the students more creative and make the mind mapping based on their ideas.
