AN ANALYSIS OF POLITENESS PRINCIPLES IN THE MOVIE SCRIPT ENTITLED “BIG HERO 6” BASED ON ROBIN LAKOFF’SPERSPECTIVE

We are as human being need other people to do interaction in our life. Moreover, it is certainly needed the politeness principles to keep good communication each other. Especially politeness as one of the elements in sociolinguistics. It is assumed that politeness is not only interpreted in real life, but in the movie either. Then we can see how the utterances used by the characters in the movie script entitled “Big Hero 6”. So that“Big Hero 6” movie provided correlates between the utterances and politeness principle by Robin Lakoff’s perspective.
The phenomenon aboveinspires the researcher to executethe research in the movie script entitled “Big Hero 6”. There are two research focuses in this study. The first is what type of politeness principles used in the movie script entitled “Big Hero 6”. Then the second is how the politeness principles used in the movie entitled “Big Hero 6”. The research that was mainly purposed to know the type of politeness principles and analyze how the politeness principles used by the characters in the movie when they make a communication.
This research is qualitative approach where the method is using content analysis. This approach will help the researcher to describe the situation into a paragraph . While the procedure which is used by the researcher to collect the data are observation and documentation. In doing observation, the researcher watches the movie and read the text in order to understand what the movie is about. Then, the documentation is conducted by collecting the movie script to make the researcher easy in analyzing.
The result of this study found that the characters use the three types of politeness principles; don’t impose, give option, and make a feel good. The result shows that make a feel good as the principles in number three is mostly used by the characters in the movie. It can be said the principles work appropriately with the rule which stated in the politeness principles.
Based on the explanation above, the researcher expects the movie can be a view to researcher in the real life by seeing the value in it to have a polite behavior. Furthermore, it is expected for the other researcher to continue or develop this study whether by the other experts or topic.
