The Implementation of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) Strategy in Reading Comprehension for Twelfth Grade Students of State Senior High School 2 Pamekasan

There are three problems in this research. The first how the implementation of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) strategy in reading comprehension for Twelfth grade students of state Senior High School 2 Pamekasan. The second what are the advantages of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) strategy in reading comprehension for Twelfth grade students of state Senior High School 2 Pamekasan. The third what are the disadvantages of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) strategy in reading comprehension for Twelfth grade students of state Senior High School 2 Pamekasan.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative approach with descriptive research because it is intended to describe how the teacher implements Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) strategy in reading comprehension, to know the advantages and disadvantages of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) strategy in teaching learning process.
The result of this research showed that the Implementation of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) is an appropriate strategy in reading comprehension for Twelfth Grade students of State senior High School 2 Pamekasan. It can be called success and run effectively because the teacher could implemented Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) well and the students obedient all of the rules that the teacher apply in this strategy. The teacher prepared different reading text so that the students cultivated and explore to read. The implementation of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) helps the students to understand and comprehend the content of the reading text, quickly in getting information, can improve or practice students’ reading skill, can master most of vocabularies that stated on the text. The implementation of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) has disadvantages that is for the students who are not yet fluent in reading and do not have many vocabularies, it is difficult to implement this strategy.
Finally, based on the result of this research it can be concluded that Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) has the advantages and also the disadvantages in teaching and learning process, exactly in reading comprehension.
