AN ANALYSIS OF SPEECH ACT: PERLOCUTIONARY IN JOKO WIDODO’S SPEECH 2014 BASED ON GEOFFREY LEECH PERSPECTIVE

Speech act is pragmatic element that involves the speaker, the listeners, and the one discussed. Speech acts that occur will vary in every speech situation. Speech act theory influences the relationship between form and function because if focuses on the question of what people are doing when they use language. It is the types of act performed by speaker in uttering a sentence. There are some kinds of speech acts; one of them is Perlocutionary which is the main theme in the concept of speech acts. Perlocutionary act is effect on listener's reaction. This effect or power is created by the speaker. In the theory that will develop about perlocutionary into four classifications, that are: assertives, directives, expressives, and declaratives
It made the researcher interested to conduct a study on perlocutionary act in this speech. The researcher analyzes the perlocutionary act used by presidential speech of Joko Widodo. This study mainly attempts to discuss the important points that become the focus of this study. The research focus namely is types of perlocutionary act are performed in the presidential speech of Joko Widodo.
The approach of this study is used qualitative research. While the research method applied in this study is descriptive research. This approach is to describe the data with detail information. The data are in the form video of the utterances of Joko Widodo. The data is taken from the presentation of Joko Widodo.
This result of analyzing data primarily reveals that perlocutionary act has appears in the presentation of Joko Widodo. This study reveals important point that are, the four types of perlocutionary speech acts, there are assertive, directive, expressive, and declarative speech. The assertive speech is divided become 4 actions such as affirming, asking, explaining, and telling. While directive speech is divided become 3 actions they are suggesting, inviting, and commanding. The expressive speech is divided become 2 actions, sarcastic and grateful. And the last speech is declarative. There is one action that included declarative speech that is grant. Those all are the finding of this research.
The result of this research is the researcher expected that this research can help the readers in providing an understanding and apply on speech act theory, especially in perlocutionary act. For further researcher, the result of this research is able to be used as references if they want to conduct the research further. The researcher suggested to the further researcher can use different theory. And also this analysis is expected to be an important consideration in preparing the thesis further.
